(PDT) Photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a clinically proven treatment used to manage certain forms of sun-damaged skin and precancerous changes caused by long-term UV exposure. At Bendigo Medispa, this treatment is performed under medical supervision and is commonly recommended for patients with actinic keratosis, field cancerisation, or areas of significant sun damage. PDT works by selectively targeting abnormal cells while helping preserve surrounding healthy tissue. Following a thorough skin assessment, your practitioner will determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your condition and explain what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. 

During the treatment, a light-activated solution is applied to the affected area and allowed to absorb into the skin. The area is then exposed to a controlled light source that activates the medication, targeting the abnormal cells. Some patients may experience temporary redness, sensitivity, or mild discomfort following the procedure, which is a normal part of the skin’s healing response. Your practitioner will provide detailed aftercare instructions and guidance to support recovery and help protect your skin as it renews.
